Micro Fiction – Rebirth

His eyes beamed as he blew the last tank of the enemy with his heart saying “Hail Mother India” in every beat of his, when a series of bullets pierced him with the spring of blood oozing out of his body.

He remembered his parents’ who bade him goodbye with the moist eyes suppressing the hollowness inside with the meek smile on their face, “Come soon Son, We will be waiting”, is all they could manage to speak. He remembered his wife and the little time they could spend together as his holidays were cut in between due to tension at the border, his three year old son who only let him go on a condition that he brings him the enemy’s tank when he’s back. He remembered those unfulfilled promises and unsaid talks with his family which he had put on hold to honour his duty towards the nation.

He smiled, prostrated to Mother India and spoke with his folded hands before collapsing, “I have offered this birth of mine to serve this Mother of mine; I will be reborn again to discharge my duties towards all of you, my loved ones – Please forgive me this time.”
